Ian Barrie is a visual artist based in Raleigh, North Carolina, working primarily in painting and drawing. A graduate of Montserrat College of Art (BFA, Painting, 2016), Barrie works in acrylic and graphite to explore the relationship between perception, memory, and landscape.
His work often reflects on themes of transience, mortality, and the shifting nature of observation-blending traditional observational techniques with interpretive mark-making.
While grounded in specific places, Barrie's landscapes are shaped as much by experience and mood as by location, resulting in images that feel both familiar and elusive. Barrie's practice invites a slower kind of looking-where the quiet presence of light, form, and atmosphere opens space for reflection. He continues to develop his work through ongoing studio practice in Raleigh.
